Reiki, Mukti, and energy exploration

October 23, 2011
It's been a crazy couple of months, so lots has been happening.

First off, and to get the unfortunate stuff out of the way - Aleesha and I attended a day-long silent meditation led by Mukti, a follower (and wife) of Adyashanti. Aleesha had been very excited about the event as she read one of Adyashanti's books and thought the stuff he wrote about was very cool and spoke to what she (and I) believe. Excitement turned quickly into disappointment when it became very clear that Mukti had no desire to be there and that the "silent meditation" was in fact mostly her talking. Very disappointing.

I am now a Reiki Master/Teacher. Many thanks to my Reiki teacher Aleesha. It's been transformative for me.

One of the ways it has been transformative is in the way energy flows for me. There is an expansiveness to it that is simply wonderful. And I'd like to share how:

I wrote in a prior post about the word and gesture of gratitude a First Nation's band uses - the word (phonetically pronounced) O-C-M and the hand gesture with both hands coming up to the heart and then lowering down. It sort of looks and feels like it's love being given from the heart to the recipient of the gesture. I felt a powerful surge of energy/love develop within myself at the time I discovered this for myself earlier this year.

My new discovery is in sharing that love with Aleesha. I wanted to have something that said "I love you" but was far more concrete and active than simply saying words. So I began to use the O-C-M gesture with her, sending a wave of love out to her that she clearly felt (I did it when she wasn't looking and she could still feel the wave of it). She began to share it back, and we've both been working with it, to the point that when we mutually do the gesture, we can feel a giant expansive ball of energy that we both mesh with. It's heady, warm, and very comforting. I will certainly be experimenting with it more as I do more Reiki work.

Home schooling, spirituality, and related ramblings

August 9, 2011

It’s been a while since I last wrote something for the blog.  It’s not that there’s been nothing to say, but nothing has seemed compelling to be there - no large impetus to put something out there.  But now it feels like there is - or at least a desire to ramble on all sorts of things...

Homeschooling

Reiki Level 2

June 24, 2011
The world of Reiki continues to open up for me thanks to Aleesha (who is now my Reiki Mother, along with being my publisher at Timeless Spirit).

I received my Level 2 attunement the other day by the water park in Stanley Park.  It was later in the day so that it was chilly and no kids were playing, but the water was on and added a lovely sound backdrop to the whole process.  A glow of white light came over me at some point and it was an amazing feeling - things are opening up in lovely and b...

How we're defined individually...and quantum mechanically

June 7, 2011
Just saw this on TedTalk and have to share - http://www.ted.com/talks/aaron_o_connell_making_sense_of_a_visible_quantum_object.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2011-06-07&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email (I got to the link via a newsletter, so the link has some of that in there as well).  It's in line with what I've been saying - we are defined by our connections.  And here's some proof quantum mechanically.

Less than 8 minutes, yet mind-blowing.

Reiki Level I

May 29, 2011
For regular readers of my blog, you know my posts typically involve philosophies, thoughts, and other examinations of the world and our place in it.  This post will therefore break with the usual and talk about my experience receiving my Reiki Level I attunement.

Let me first say that, true to my former calling of an accountant and my current one of studying math and physics, I am a huge sceptic.  Not, I should add, that I am a denier - someone who denies the possibility of something based sol...

Grokking we are God

May 3, 2011
I've talked a bit here and there about philosophers and writers with whom I feel a kinship and admiration.  Please allow me to add Robert Heinlein to the list.  This is an excerpt of an excerpt from Stranger in a Strange Land:

"Jubal my brother, you were ask me, 'Who made the World?' and I did not have words why I did not grok it rightly to be a question. I have been thinking words."

"So?"

"You told me, 'God made the World.' "

"No, no!" Harshaw said.  "I told you that, while religions said many t...

The Love of the Fulfilled

May 1, 2011
Recently, I've been thinking about Love.  How it connects, how it opens.  Love brings so much to those that love.  It's incredible.

But...on the path of human spiritual development and evolution, there is a seeking for independence, for completeness.  The ability to stand on one's own two feet, to support yourself, to enrich yourself with the fulness and richness of life.

So how does Love work with someone who feels they have found that ability to joyfully engage with all of life?

I wrote this p...

Living in Childlike Joy

March 31, 2011
In a prior blog post, I talked about living in childlike joy.  A good friend of mine asked me to expand on that - how does one live in childlike joy?

So I began to compose a blog post.  I knew that many approaches people take to living in that way simply don't work for me.

So that I couldn't adopt an approach like that of an inspirational motivator with things like "Just feel how wonderful it is to be alive!  Breathe in the air of a fresh new day!  Be large and in charge of you and all you ...

The Life of Closing Doors

March 6, 2011
On the day we're born into this world, our world is our oyster.  Just about any act, action, outcome, future, result - they are all within our reach at some point in the life and the world of ours.  We are pure potential.

As we live our lives, we begin to be attracted to this, to be repelled by that, to gravitate towards the one and lean away from the other.  Some paths are more attractive, some doors easier to get through - for whatever reason, we focus on one set of ways and reject another. ...
